Tom,
If you're working with Firework and Flash within your workflow - Freehand is
great for doing your layouts in. It works with Photoshop and AFterEffects
without any hitches at all. It allows us to manage large graphic projects -
colours, fonts, etc. that would have seen us going back to dozens of
illustrator files to make changes that could be done in one Freehand file in
minutes.
The only thing I have found is that most service bureaus prefer illustrator
files (they don't seem Freehand ones) or at least this was true in the
Toronto area. BTW - Freehand has a sweet print interface compared to
Illustrator - I've used it to run film, where I'd never even think of doing
that with Illustrator.
We switched when version 8 of both packages were released, and haven't
looked back.
