Here's how I would do it:
Make yourself a symbol of your star with maybe 6 keyframes in it, make sure
that each of these keyframes has version of the star with different alpha or
brightness, however you're making your twinkling work.
Then... heheheheh...
put a bunch of them on the stage along with an action clip (great term for
those little mcs with just actionscript in them) that targets all of them
(say you name them twinkle1, twinkle2, etc. your action clip will
tell_target twinkle&i where i is a number between 1 and whatever the total
number of stars you have is).
You have that tell_target doing a goto and stop on a random frame between 1
and 6.
So now all of your stars will be going to different random keyframes. Flash
does something screwy with 0 and 1 something about honest-to-God integers so
all of my number suggestions may be off by 1 but you can figure that out.
Sorry I don't have some cut and paste code for you but I'm trying
desperately to get my 5k project out the door.
Anyone else competing in the 5k project?
