Hi evilsteven,

It's the curse of using JPEG that when using bitmaps in Flash with jpeg
compression they mat be distotrted.
Convert your to vector drawn elements and you will see perfection. Your
graphics can easily be recreate in Flash. This may take some
imagination to get the same look and feel but it should be worth it
since it will display perfectly in or out of a button and no matter what
the screen size.

Gifs created from full color bitmaps (in Flash, Aftershock or any
program) are almost always going to turn out poorly. If you are going to
use bitmaps then use the originals as your alternate content (not ones
imported and then recreated in Flash or Aftershock). Gifs created from
vector images created in Flash usually look quite good.

To remember whether or not a browser is Flash capable or not, when
switching from page to page you need to use a cookie. The exception is,
if you create a Frameset you can establish a global variable that can be
referenced from any page opened up in the frame or frames created from
that original frameset.
Another alternative is to detect the Flash capability at an entrypage
then direct browsers to different sets of pages ones with Flash and ones
without. The advantage to this system is that no scripting is required
on any of the content pages, all Flash capable browsers can get Flash
even if thet have JavaScript disabled. The disadvantage is that separate
alternate content pages need to be created for the Flash impared
browsers. If your alternate content already has to be created separately
or you require Flash then this is not a problem.
