Some would mention Microsoft in this string, but that aside,,,,

The most common are pyramid schemes and/or chain letters - I can send you
about a thousand of these, but they are quite dull.

Better you check out:
news.admin.net-abuse.usenet
or
alt.current-events.net-abuse.spam

The OFT have some good material in the 'watch out' section of:
http://www.oft.gov.uk/html/shopping/index.html

This also provides a comprehensive list:

For a future article, how about some urban legends on a 'scam' theme? Here's
a recent one (and my personal favourite).

___

A website offers hardcore pornographic material (videos, CD-Roms etc.) at
quite reasonable (but not suspicious) prices.

After several weeks, the company writes back by snail mail explaining that
under the present law they are unable to supply the materials and do not
wish to be prosecuted. So they return their customers' money in the form of
a company cheque.

However, due to the name of the company, few people ever bother to present
these to their banks.

The name of the company: 'The Anal Sex and Fetish Perversion Company.'
