erm, if i can duck the 'quantifiable' bit from this query...

One of our oldest clients is a rare & collectable record shop -
www.vinyltap.co.uk
Now they don't have the biggest budget to throw around, so we've taught
them how to do as much as possible for themselves and they promote
themselves to newsgroups an awful lot (although they've been told off by
their ISP twice, so they're pretty discreet nowadays).
The newsgroup promotion has made them very, very busy indeed - if they
receive an Alanis Morrisette collection, then they'll mention it on an
Alanis newsgroup (they try to offer it as helpful information rather than
selling a service), and in come the orders.
Its a small shop in central Leeds, but last year they turned over a 6
figure sum on the website alone - we keep telling them to flog the shop &
run it out of a lock-up garage, but they seem to like having posters on
the wall and sneering at customers...

Unless its something that folk are 'trainspotterish' about - like music
fans. I wouldn't dismiss them, and we always check to see if there are
newsgroups which might relate to our client in any way.
