Sorry if this is a bit off-topic, but moaning about Telewest is just about

my favourite subject right now.  I moved house about 3 weeks ago and the

only way I could get them to return my calls was to complain to OFTEL, who

gave me a number at Telewest HQ.


They also sent me a letter along the lines of:


"You are currently a customer of Telewest and you may or may not be paying

your bills via direct debit.  Since your phone number is about to change, we

will require you to complete a new direct debit form if you wish to continue

paying by direct debit."


What I took out of this was:


1) our records are just about good enough to tell that you are a customer


2) we don't have a clue about any other aspect of our relationship with you


3) our systems are so completely rubbish that you have to do all the work

for us


And, depressingly enough, the consensus on the Telewest forum on Motley Fool

is that this kind of useless service is entirely the norm and their stock is

priced accordingly.


Of course, Telewest don't have a monopoly on this kind of incompetence.  It

took BT over a week to get a phone line working into our house as well.  And

the engineer who finally fixed it had a killer excuse - "Sorry mate, but

Telewest really f***ed it up when they put their lines in."


Good to know that the broadband revolution is in such safe hands...
