I don't like to be predictable but ....
Reporting Argos to the IMRG was an extremely good idea as Peter Jones,
Argos's Operations Director and, currently, acting MD is a non-exec. -

And on a minor point of vocabulary: a 'chargeback' is what happens when the
bank that has originally issued the credit card, refuses, for one arbitrary
reason or another, to apply it to the cardholders account. Under these
circumstances the acquiring bank, i.e. the one running the point of sale
payments system, charges the amount back to the merchant's account, by
deducting it from funds due for other more successful payments.
The worrying trend is amongst issuing banks who are installing Automated
Chargeback systems that are configured to reject any payments of a Card Not
Present variety that meet a few minor conditions, and have absolutely
nothing to do with fraud or customer complaints. Indeed Argos should receive
a legitimate chargeback once your complaint has woven its way through the
system or they acknowledge their error. You could call your issuing bank,
they might want to help, if they can be bothered.
If I were still a retailer, I'd have shot a few bankers by now.
Steve.
