UKNM: What`s a dotcom??

Hi all,

      I do not know if I am alone in getting a little perplexed when asked

the question "what`s a dotcom?" as my young daughter did the other day. I

generally mumble something along the lines of "it doesn`t mean anything,

it`s just a phrase journalists use".

I noticed, by chance, an article from no less then Justin Urquart-Stewart in

this weeks Sunday Times. Where he gave an interesting answer to this

question;



"The dotcoms are basically online shops and should not be confused with some

of the genuine high-tech companies with business-to-business models"


So there you have it, we are really all just shopkeepers. I feel strangely

comforted by this and at least I will be able to tell my daughter what I do.
